The Beatles' release final song revived with AI!

The Beatles have completed their unfinished song "Now and Then" after five decades, using AI to separate John Lennon's vocals from the piano part. This achievement allowed Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to add new instrumentals, making it a collaborative effort. The release marks a significant use of AI in music, allowing for the completion of old projects and potentially new collaborations.

Audius launches marketplace.

Audius, the community-owned music platform, has launched a music marketplace in beta. This marketplace enables fans to pay artists directly using USDC and gives artists pricing control over their music. ' $AUDIO Match' offers token rewards. Musicians like 'The Glitch Mob' are using the feature, and independent record labels will join in the future. Audius has also partnered with Ampsuit to integrate more music labels into its ecosystem.

Avenged Sevenfold teams up with Ticketmaster to offer digital ticket stubs as NFTs!

Metal band Avenged Sevenfold (A7X) has partnered with Ticketmaster to provide NFTs as digital ticket stubs to attendees of their summer shows. These NFTs are part of a larger points system, and they serve as proof of attendance tokens for A7X events, including the Deathbats Club, rewards program, and Ticketmaster collectibles. These tokens authenticate your presence at events and can be found on Coinbase for Deathbats Club and rewards program attendance, while Ticketmaster Collectibles confirm attendance at select events and serve as collectible live event souvenirs.

(spoiler: I actually did win real money from this contest)

Imagine you are the head of a record label and have the opportunity to sign 5 Vault Music artists. Basically every week they will send to your email a list of musicians & their graphs from Spotify Monthly Listeners over a one week period and you have to choose your roster of 5 artists you think will have the biggest growth that week! And yes, I did place 3rd in one of the weeks & won actual $ in my PayPal!

10 Predictions for the Next 5 Years of Music

From Where Musicā€™s Going by Rob Abelow

  1. ā€œONE BILLION MUSIC CREATORS

AI tools help blur the lines between artist & consumer. Most will create for an audience of one or in fun, easy, social, gamified experiences. Co-creation & interactivity become the leading driver of music's new growth.

  1. 100 MILLION SONGS WILL BE RELEASED TO DSPS EACH YEAR

99% will be heard by no one.

  1. MUSIC STREAMERS BECOME INCREASINGLY PAY-TO-PLAY

As they look to drive revenue & realize creators are willing to spend far more money than consumers ever will for mass consumption.

  1. TAYLOR SWIFT IS THE LAST OF MUSICā€™S GLOBAL SUPERSTARS

We never see an artist gain this level of multi-generational awareness again. Artists will sell out arenas, sell tons of albums, get billions of streams & have tons of fans (perhaps more than Taylor), but most people will not know who they are.

  1. THE GREAT ARTIST UNBUNDLING

We'll see a major shift in the artist-fan experience away from mega-platforms that bundle all artists together as content, to artist-centric platforms that bundle each artist's music, art, engagement, membership & commerce.

  1. MEGA-PLATFORMS & MAJORS MISS OUT ON THE ā€œSUPERFANā€ OPPORTUNITY

They're built for mass consumption & feed the lowest common denominator. Fandom is bespoke, and entirely new tools that center the artist-fan and fan-to-fan relationships will win.

  1. AN AI-ARTIST PLAYS COACHELLAā€™S MAIN STAGE

An AI designed artist with a fully synthetic voice, backed by an unknown creator, will play the main stage at Coachella. Think a new version of Daft Punk, 2028.

  1. THE MARVEL-IZATION OF MUSIC

Major catalog owners churn out music's version of sequels, using AI & their deep catalogs to exploit timeless material for continued profit.

  1. THE RISE OF COLLECTIVES

New forms of collectives (partially) fill the role of labels & curators, offering collaboration & resource-sharing while challenging traditional industry hierarchies. They become the artist launchpads, as they have a superpower few will hold ā€” authentic, engaged audiences.

  1. A NEW ARTIST SELLS OUT ARENAS WITHOUT RELEASING ANY MUSIC ON TRADITIONAL PLATFORMS

Solely through grassroots, community-centric growth, bypassing conventional platforms entirely. Instead of competing against the noise, they create their own space outside of it.ā€

5 Mistakes In Building Audiences

From The Connected Artist #34 by Harriet J.W.

ā€œ1. Not defining your target audience.

Trying to appeal to everyone dilutes your message.  When I hear an artist say ''I make music for everyone'' or ''my target audience is broad'' I know we have to get much more focused.

Understand your ideal fanbase and tailor your marketing content accordingly for deeper resonance.

2. Overlooking engagement.

Building a tribe is more than followers, it's about connecting with human beings that will come to your shows, buy your merch and spread the word about your music. Meaningful interactions matter. Instead of focusing on top line numbers like ''views'' or ''streams'' measure human interaction like DMs, email sign ups and comments.

Engage with fans, respond, and involve them in your creative process.

3. Ignoring offline connections.

The online space is great for building a fanbase, but don't rely solely on the internet. Most big artists with engaged fanbases are sitting on a history of live activity - think of Ed Sheeran and his 1000s of stages before he made it, or Passenger starting out as a busker. Connect with fans in real life.

Personal connections foster a sense of belonging that will create life long fans.

4. No compelling story.

Craft a captivating narrative around your music, journey, and values. A well-crafted story creates an emotional connection and gives fans a reason to invest beyond the sounds.

Remember: Don't say ''stream my single, say ''I wrote this song because''

5. Lack of consistency.

Building a loyal tribe takes time and effort, stay consistent in outreach and content creation. Set realistic goals and commit to regular communication to cultivate a dedicated fanbase.ā€œ

ā€œUnforgettable" by Annika Rose

ā€œAs a writer and ever-evolving human being, most of my songs come from real experiences. Whether they be my own, or somebody elseā€™s. Although theyā€™re all widely open for interpretation, some are a little more transparent in the details. Unforgettable is one of those songs.ā€

ā€œThinkin Bout You" by Beachcrimes

Who are Beachcrimes? Weā€™re a duo from LA and we spent the last year making songs in hotel rooms around the world. Beachcrimes is the soundtrack to that adventure.

ā€œGrief" by Omotayo

ā€œā€˜Griefā€™ expresses that moment in the life-death-rebirth cycle when we are finally ready to let go of something. That turning point when suddenly there is nothing more left to say. No more need to analyze, discuss, think about, talk about why the ending is happening. The only thing left to do is surrender to the truth of what is. To turn away from ā€˜the storyā€™ of it and turn your attention on tending to yourself and your heart so that you may process, heal and, in so doing, be renewed. ā€˜Griefā€™ is the single from my upcoming EP ā€˜Odysseyā€™. It is the first chapter in a 4-part story of initiation onto the path of The Heart - the start of a journey that begins in the underworld and ends in the stars.ā€

Utility: The winner of the Golden Egg will have the opportunity to be a part of my songwriting process for a new track. The inspiration for the song will be led by the Golden Egg winner and they will be named in the credits.

ā€œDesert Spirit" by Marvin Allen

ā€œDeep in the desert, the spirit lies, roaming the dunes, between dusk and dawn.ā€"

Shooting StaršŸŒ

Meet Brenda, a 24-year-old artist, songwriter, and pianist from Romania, whose passion for music became visible at an early age. She began professional piano training at just four and a half years old and has continued since to carve her skills in composition and songwriting. Brenda's musical path has been nothing short of diverse, ranging from classical music competitions and performances with orchestras of over 100 members to creating and sharing her original songs in both Web2 and Web3. Her distinctive style finds its home in the genre of dark pop, reflecting her unique creativity and depth.

After embarking on her journey as an independent artist, Brenda crossed paths with Satwik, an extraordinarily talented songwriter, artist, and producer from India. Together, they ventured into the Web3 space in January 2022. They built their artist profiles, shining a spotlight on their music and captivating audiences through live concerts in various communities. Simultaneously, they've been diligently working on their own music label, DOR (Digital On-chain Records), which not only serves as a platform for showcasing their music but also as a support system for other emerging artists.

June 2023 marked a significant milestone for Brenda as she launched her first music NFT, "Memento Mori," on the XRPL chain, through the Astrals label. "Memento Mori" attracted significant attention due to its unique blend of vintage and modern elements, forming an incredible community of collectors who appreciate her musical style. Not long after, Brenda released "Cabin in the Woods" on the ETH chain, a song written and produced by Satwik. It peaked at the fourth position in the Top 10 Viral Sounds and found a home with over 75 collectors.
